Web interfaces for mobile robots in public places

چکیده
The emergence of the World Wide Web provides a unique opportunity to connect robots to the Internet, enabling people all over the World to control them and monitor their operation. This paper describes a series of Web interfaces, designed to remotely operate mobile robots in public places through the Web. The design of these interfaces specifically addresses issues such as low bandwidth of Internet connections, control brokering, and shared control as well as interaction with people in the robot’s environment, which arise naturally in applications with Web-based robot control. The interfaces have been tested extensively using two deployed service robots, which were installed as interactive tour-guides in two museums. The Web interfaces proved highly effective to provide a “tele-presence” to people all over the world. The paper also discusses trade-offs and limitations of Web-based robots that interact with people in populated, public places.

Experimental Analysis for Measuring Errors in Wheeled Mobile Robots (RESEARCH NOTE)
This paper presents experimental analysis of wheeled mobile robots. Mathematical modelling of the mobile robot is presented. The mobile robots consist of an omni-directional and three differential drive mobile robots are tested and moved in given trajectories and the systematic errors of the robots are determined. A new method for omni-direction mobile robot was introduced in which the robot wa...
متن کاملTele-Presence in Populated Exhibitions Through Web-Operated Mobile Robots
This paper presents techniques that facilitate mobile robots to be deployed as interactive agents in populated environments such as museum exhibitions or trade shows. The mobile robots can be tele-operated over the Internet and, this way, provide remote access to distant users. Throughout this paper we describe several key techniques that have been developed in this context. To support safe and...

The Internet provides a unique opportunity to tele-operate and monitor mobile robots. Web-controlled mobile robots can give people all over the world the ability to become telepresent at distant places. Additionally, Internet-based tele-experimentation systems for mobile robots give distributed research groups located at distant places the ability to carry out joint experiments. This way, they ...
متن کاملInteraction With Mobile Robots in Public Places
Robotics is undergoing a change. While in the past, robots were predominately employed for assembly and transportation purposes in settings like factory floors, a new generation of service robot has begun to emerge, designed to assist people in everyday life [8, 16, 21, 23]. This raises the question as to what physical shape these robots should take, and how they should behave. In mobile roboti...
متن کاملAre Autonomous Mobile Robots Able to Take Over Construction? A Review
Although construction has been known as a highly complex application field for autonomous robotic systems, recent advances in this field offer great hope for using robotic capabilities to develop automated construction. Today, space research agencies seek to build infrastructures without human intervention, and construction companies look to robots with the potential to improve construction qua...
